I think everyone can appreciate a nice rack. That is not a question here. However, what I have recently found myself attracted to is sports/sporty cars with roofracks. For some reason I find roofracks on cars that you wouldn't necessarily think of as utility machines extremely sexy. Porsche 911 Turbo? Nice! Porsche 911 Turbo with roofrack? Raawr!
The best analogy I can come up with is that a sports car with a roofrack is kind of like a hot model with a tool belt and work boots. It's sexy in that completely unexpected way that gives you a tingly feeling of intrigue. A good example of this might be Bennie Benassi's video for Satisfaction.
Two of my favorite models with workboots are Jon Olsson's Lamborghini Gallardo and later Gumball 3000 Murcielago. Bonus points for putting the AWD to good use in the snow!
Other cars that look amazing with roofracks include the BMW 3-series sedan, Saab 9-3, and Porsche 911 in pretty much any iteration.
Lastly, I leave you with this lovely F40. Who says supercars can't be practical?
What's your favorite model in workboots?

Roof rack on a 911? Yes please. I still remember the envy of watching Jack drive off to the next event in the OTC before we even had our car on the damn trailer. Well, that and every other reason to envy his ride.
He did it right.

I agree 100% with everything written here. Racks are cool.
What is also cool is rocking racks 99% of the time then taking them off and going "wow, so that's what the car looks like naked"

I'm almsot tempted to buy a rack just for the hell of it, in case I buy a bike and need to put it somewhere.

So why is it OK for these cars to have roof racks, but as soon as someone puts a rack on a VW they are ridiculed as a "hellaflush fanboi hipster?"

I can't believe I don't have a picture of my e39 with the big ass kayak loaded up. But I don't, so here it is with just the rack.

I have a rack on my jetta, and it's actually used most of the time... You try putting a 40 lb downhill mountain bike in the back of anything other than a pickup truck, and you'll see why they are necessary... Plus its a place to put sponsor stickers that isn't my car or bumper...

Ok now I have a new dream car: an F40 with a roof rack. That thing is pure sex.

Because a lot of those racks are installed for cosmetic and "illest" reasons.

Thule on an R8. Don't like the R8 much normally, put a roof rack on it and wrap it and the rack in snow camo though and I'm falling over myself.
